ABOUT THE PRODUCT

CARBON FIBER "Fukugo series"

Introducing fatcarbon® Fukugo carbon fiber series – a collection inspired by the traditional Japanese Mokume-gane technique.

This innovative gold and copper carbon fiber series draws inspiration from the ancient Japanese art of Mokume-gane, a technique where craftsmen layered precious metals to create natural patterns resembling wood grain. In Japanese, “Fukugo” (複合) means a composite or a combination of different materials. For us, Fukugo carbon fiber is more than just a technical term, it is a material with its own distinct character and feeling.

Every piece in the Fukugo carbon fiber series is completely unique. During the manufacturing process, the vibrant layers of this gold and copper carbon fiber composite naturally form organic patterns similar to the lines of wood. Because of this, no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

WORK

The Art of the Pattern

The Fukugo carbon fiber series is all about the pattern. The tight swirling circles feel a bit like natural wood grain or knots in good quality wood, giving the material a deep, organic feel. Light makes the metallic lines reflect and shift as you move, especially with a polished or clear-coated finish.

We use three metal colors to bring the pattern out:

  • “Fukugo” Gold & Copper: A mix of both metals. The gold and copper lines twist together, creating strong contrast.
  • “Fukugo” Gold: Bright gold lines follow the pattern and give it a clean, even look.
  • “Fukugo” Copper: Warm and subtle. It makes the pattern feel darker, more earthy and slightly industrial.

Inspiration

The possibilities are endless...

  • Knifemaking. Excellent material for knife scales, liners, or handle inlays. Easy to shape on a belt sander or CNC mill/router using carbide tools.
  • Jewelry. Carbon fiber is known for its subtle shimmering effect in sunlight, making it a favorite among modern jewelry designers.
  • Pocket art. Thanks to its lightweight nature and distinctive shimmer, carbon fiber works beautifully as a base material for contemporary jewelry pieces and small artistic creations.
  • Decorative. A wide range of Fatcarbon blocks and sheet sizes offers endless possibilities for creative and decorative applications.
